Having left my role at the Whitstable branch ofWoodcraft Folkthis summer (which I set up in 2019), I am launching a Thanet group that will begin in September for 9-12 year olds. There is a lot to organise, but The Margate School will be the base for our weekly sessions – the community garden while the weather and light hold, and then into the maker space for the winter.
Having received confirmation that we are officially registered with the organisation, Thanet Pioneers will be the latest Woodcraft Folk group to open in the UK.
The Folk is a good match for TMS – centred on community, skills development, social and environmental justice, and friendship as its guiding principles.
Before we formally get going in September, we have organised a taster workshop on Sunday 13th August 10am-12pm. This will provide some basic woodcarving skills to make beads and pencils using elder branches, as well as introducing the concept of Woodcraft Folk.
