The UK premiere of a film about a US Jewish philanthropist who spent his fortune ensuring that African American children could attend school will take place at the University on Sunday 23 October.
The film,Rosenwald, tells the story ofJulius Rosenwald, the son of immigrants from Germany, who become one of the 20th century’s most successful businessmen and effective philanthropists.
The screening, at the University’s Gulbenkian cinema at its Canterbury campus, takes place at 19.00 and is free and open to all, with any donations going towards the Gulbenkian’s work with children and young people. Tickets are available throughEventbrite.
The premier has been organised by the University’sCentre for Philanthropyand will also feature a Q&A session after the screening to discuss the role of philanthropy in the UK.
We will host a short discussion about the role of philanthropy in contemporary society after the film ends, followed by a drink reception.
This event takes place in the Gulbenkian cinema on our Canterbury campus at 19.00 on Sunday 23 October. In keeping with the spirit of the film, we are not selling tickets but instead will invite contributions to support the work of the Gulbenkian with children and young people.

The University launched theMA in Philanthropic Studiesthis year and the first cohort of students will be attending the screening, along withTrevor Pears梨基金会的,哈哈s donated almost £200,000 to the University to support teaching and research on philanthropy.
