The University of Kent catering team are thrilled to announce thatAnnie Borelli, Assistant Food & Beverage Manager,has won the prestigious Rising Star award at the TUCO Awards 2023, for her phenomenal managerial skills in the field of hospitality. The glittering ceremony took place on the closing night of the TUCO (The University Caterers Organisation) Conference, held on Wednesday 26 July 2023, at the University of St Andrews.

Annie’s journey in the world of catering began as a part-time Food & Beverage Assistant at The University of Kent during her academic studies in September 2021. Her dedication and passion for the industry quickly caught the attention of her colleagues, leading to a series of promotions in quick succession. While still pursuing her studies, Annie was promoted to Food & Beverage Supervisor and eventually appointed to Assistant Food & Beverage Manager in January 2023, following her graduation in late 2022.

Responsibilities will include:

Gulbenkian Café chef,Anto, will be cooking up authenticKeralan street foodfrom his pop-up food stalloutside the Gulbenkian Arts Centre, for the duration of the Summer term.

The School of Anthropology and Conservation’s student-ledSustainability Working Grouphave been working with the catering team to produce a plant-based loyalty card.

The loyalty scheme rewards customers witha FREE mealfor every 9 vegan meals purchased in a campus restaurant, cafe, or bar.

Gulbenkian Open Air Film Festival

Get ready for an epic summer of cinema under the stars! From 11 May – 8 June, as part of theGulbenkian Open Air Film Festival, you can enjoy a different movie every Thursday night on the big screen outside the Gulbenkian Arts Centre!

The festival will be showing a variety of different films, from 90’s romantic comedy, Pretty Woman; to biographical fantasy musical, Rocketman.

Gulbenkian露天电影events are free to attend and non-ticketed, so you can just turn up on the night and enjoy the film!

Will there be food and drink?

There will be hay bales to sit on, but you are more than welcome to bring backrests, chairs, or picnic blankets to watch the film. We recommend you wrap up warm and wear lots of layers – even summer nights can get quite cold.

What happens if it rains?

As we all know, the Great British Summer can be unpredictable, so in the event of rain, film screenings will move indoors to the Gulbenkian Arts Centre cinema (except for Licorice Pizza on Thursday 18 May).

What time does the film start?

The film starts at 21.00, but you are more than welcome to arrive earlier, get comfortable, and order some snacks before the film begins. Food and bar open from 18.00.

Are the screenings accessible?

Access to the site is along level, hard paths.

The cinema area is predominantly level grass, with limited hard standing pathways. In the event of bad weather, mud and puddles are likely.

Please let us know if you require any additional support and our on-site staff members will be more than happy to help.

Are there toilet facilities?

Will there be subtitles?

Films will not be shown with subtitles. However, for hearing-impaired guests, we recommend the use of an app called ‘Subtitle Viewer’ where you can search for the film and play the subtitles as the film plays on the big screen.

How do I put money onto my card?

You cantop up your KentOne card online– it’s easy! Simply create a KentOne account to get started. Once you’ve logged in, you can top up your card, view your balance and track your account activity. Just check out the steps below to get started!

I don’t have a KentOne card. How can I get one?

Staff will be given a KentOne card by your school/department administrator, prior to your first day. If you do not have aKentOne card it can be requested online(you will need to obtain authorisation from your department). Students will receive their KentOne card when they arrive on campus.

Get your shuffle on at Origins bar, which has two brand-new table shuffleboards! Designed for 2-8 players, these boards are the perfect way to chill with friends whilst keeping it competitive and fun.

Not played shuffleboard before? Don’t panic! Each player slides their weights down the table to earn points. The idea is, you want to slide your weight as far down the table as possible without it falling off the end! Weights which hang off the table are called ‘hangers’ and these are worth an extra point, so it’s definitely worth that risky shot.

Interactive Darts

Now you’ve got that, how about trying out our interactive darts! This game takes darts to a whole new level, incorporating traditional darts with interactive gameplay. There are 8 games to choose from; Shanghai, Robin Hood, Killer, Hexa-gone, Halve it, Blockbuster, Showtime, and Classic darts. Using the interactive system, you’ll be guided through the setup and rules of each game. The graphics display who’s throwing, and whose turn it is next, and the magnetised darts sync with the board to display your score! So no more adding up!

You can also choose your difficulty level, so whether you’re a die-hard dart champion or a total beginner, there’s a level and game to suit you. Check out the Robin Hood play-through here, to get a sense of how interactive darts work and then head down to Origins to get your game on!

We will have a host of talented elves and local suppliers, showcasing their fantastic products – including food, drink, and crafts!

This is your opportunity to discover local goods, browse gorgeous craft items, sample some delicious locally-produced food, and pick up unique and meaningful gifts in time for Christmas.

Let’s not bury our heads in the snow. Embrace the festive season, as we all know it’ll be over in a blink of Santa’s eye!

Catering Feedback Survey

Catering would like to hear about your experience of dining at their outlets on the Canterbury campus.

The short survey, which asks questions about value for money, customer service and food/drink quality, gives you a chance to provide feedback after each visit.

Customers who leave feedback can enter amonthly prize draw to win a £20 catering voucherto spend on campus, and each month presents a new opportunity to enter! The feedback received will help the catering team maintain and improve their services and the customer experience.
